Luttinger liquid of trimers in Fermi gases with unequal masses.
We investigate one dimensional attractive Fermi gases in spin-dependent optical lattices. We show that three-body bound states--"trimers"--exist as soon as the two tunneling rates are different. We calculate the binding energy and the effective mass of a single trimer. We then show numerically that for finite and commensurate densities n(up) = n(down)/2 an energy gap appears, implying that the ...
متن کاملUniversality in Strongly Interacting Fermi Gases
The theory of strongly interacting fermions is of great interest. Interacting fermions are involved in some of the most important unanswered questions in condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, astrophysics and cosmology. Though weakly-interacting fermions are well understood, new approaches are required to treat strong interactions. In these cases, one encounters a “strongly correlated” pic...
متن کاملUniversality in Few-body Systems with Large Scattering Length
Particles with short-range interactions and a large scattering length have universal low-energy properties that do not depend on the details of their structure or their interactions at short distances. In the 2-body sector, the universal properties are familiar and depend only on the scattering length a. In the 3-body sector for identical bosons, the universal properties include the existence o...
متن کاملThree-body recombination in bose gases with large scattering length
An effective field theory for the three-body system with large scattering length is applied to three-body recombination to a weakly bound s-wave state in a Bose gas. Our model independent analysis demonstrates that the three-body recombination constant alpha is not universal, but can take any value between zero and 67.9Planck's over 2pia(4)/m, where a is the scattering length. Other low-energy ...
متن کاملUnitary polarized Fermi gases
— Although recent theoretical and experimental progress have considerably clarified pairing mechanisms in spin 1/2 fermionic superfluid with equally populated internal states, many open questions remain when the two spin populations are mismatched. We show here that, taking advantage of the universal behavior characterizing the regime of infinite scattering length, the macroscopic properties of...
